Joe McFadden is the Chief Technology Officer of the Royal Opera House. He is responsible for setting the strategic direction to maintain and strengthen ROH’s sector leadership in technology and digital activity. Joe is currently leading the digital visitor experience initiative at the Opera House, part of the ‘Open Up’ redevelopment of the venue’s public spaces.
Joe and his team are also working on projects in a wide range of other areas including augmented reality, 360 VR, open data, app-based services and the Internet of Things.
Before joining the Royal Opera House, Joe was IT Director at the National Theatre. While at the NT Joe lead the technology delivery for the NT Future project to transform the theatre’s home on the Southbank. He was also responsible for the relaunch of the NT’s website to support the online sale of Punchdrunk’s The Drowned Man, the fastest selling show ever at the National. He has held strategic IT roles at the Institute of Cancer Research and The Stage newspaper, and has over 20 years’ experience in the fields of digital and technology.
