Session: Telling the story of today’s refugee crisis
The world is witnessing the highest levels of displacement since the Second World War.
But who are the people behind the numbers, and what drives the decision to flee your home? Refugee Nights was a virtual festival exploring refugees’ stories through talks, music, history and food.
Hosted by Syrian refugee & filmmaker HASSAN AKKAD, the series brought together graphic novelists, artists, policy-makers and musicians to unpick this era-defining issue and celebrate the myriad ways in which refugees enrich UK culture.
The line-up featured singer Shingai Shoniwa; politician Lord Alf Dubs & comedian Omid Djalili.
Produced during lockdown, the series attracted over 10k views on IWM’s YouTube Channel.
