Holocaust Memorial Center-Zekelman Family Campus

Ruth Bergman is the Director of Education at the Holocaust Memorial Center-Zekelman Family Campus in Farmington Hills, MI.

Ruth oversees the HMC’s teacher workshop program, through which her staff trains teacher throughout the state of Michigan in how to teach the Holocaust accurately, using primary sources, and with attention to the social-emotional needs of the students.

Ruth also oversees museum education, including the docent-led tour program for the HMC’s 65,000 annual visitors.

Because of the pandemic, the museum has now created a variety of self-guided tour options, as well as opportunities for students to learn with artifacts virtually. Ruth has been an educator for over 25 years.

She graduated from Barnard College with a B.A. in English literature, and studied curriculum development in English Language Arts.

She continued her education at the Hebrew University, studying how to teach children the foundations of ethical decision-making.

Ruth is an experienced adult education professional. In that role, she taught classes in history, culture, ethics, and the Holocaust, and mentored other adult educators and educational supervisors.
