Samantha Lane

Artistic Director
Little Angel Theatre

Samantha began her tenure as Artistic Director at Little Angel Theatre in 2015. Under Samantha’s leadership, the theatre opened a fully functioning second site (which includes invaluable spaces for rehearsals, R&D, community projects, education, professional development, puppet making and a black box studio for programming work). The theatre has gone from strength to strength in this time – doubling its output and turnover in 5 years, creating more co-productions than ever before and more new work than ever before, and reaching far more people (2019/20 was our most successful year yet, with more productions on our stages and more audiences reached than ever before – 97, 280 people).

Prior to leading Little Angel Theatre, Samantha was formerly Director of Projects at the Almeida Theatre where she made theatre for, by and with young people aged 14-25, and set up a Facilitation PGCert in partnership with RCSSD; and Education Manager at the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, where she created numerous Theatre-in-Education shows for primary and secondary schools, as well as directing community plays with casts of 60+ people. Samantha has also worked at The V&A Theatre Museum, as a secondary Drama Teacher and on various freelance theatre/education projects – including working in Singapore and Canada. Samantha completed a BA in Theatre and Performance at Warwick University in 1998 and an MA in Text and Performance at KCL and RADA in 2010; and she is author of Directing Young People in Theatre: A Guide to Staging Plays with Young Casts (Macmillan).
